The better we take care of ourselves by eating right and exercising, the better we feel and the healthier we are. Living a healthier life is a series of choices.

Choosing a chlorine-free swimming pool is part of a healthier lifestyle. We absorb chlorine in water through our skin just as fish do through their gills. Put a fish into even lightly chlorinated water like tap water and it will die. Just because we are not absorbing enough chlorine to kill us does not mean it’s safe or healthy to expose ourselves to it.

Consider this—the water in an Aqua Touch PurePool is completely safe for fish. If fish aren’t being poisoned, you’re not being poisoned. The pool is safe and healthy for you. You never have to worry about absorbing chlorine or other poisons through your skin.

It’s scientifically

All pool systems need harshness to effectively kill bacteria and viruses. In a traditional chemical system, those agents are freely circulated through the filter system and the pool water. With the PurePool system, the killing action is contained within the filtration system exclusively—inside the UV light, advanced oxidation and copper ionization chambers as well as the activated glass filter. Swimmers are never exposed to the active killing agents in a PurePool system.

Harmful microbes can survive in a chlorinated pool if they resist chlorine, like cryptosporidium do. They cannot, however, resist the multiple eradication phases of activated filter media (AFM), UV light, copper ionization and the aggressive hydroxides (chemical symbol OH) in the PurePool system.

Three-stage AFM is the most advanced form of filtration available. AFM-filtered water is so clean it’s NSF-certified as drinking-water quality.

It’s safer and

With a four-stage sanitizing pool system like the PurePool™ 75 Plus and 150 Plus, you avoid the hazards of chlorine and exposure to chlorinated water. Findings from multiple studies show that chlorination poses significant health risks to adults and children.

Immediate hazards of exposure

Chlorine in pool water causes damage to hair, eyes, skin, the respiratory tract and possibly the liver. It has been shown to aggravate existing skin conditions like acne, psoriasis and seborrhea.1

Added harm from toxic compounds

Chlorination generates toxic compounds called disinfection byproducts. These compounds cause potentially harmful metabolic changes while reducing levels of beneficial antioxidants in the body such as taurine, an essential amino acid.2

How it harms teenagers

A study of allergic diseases associated with chlorinated pool exposure among adolescents (847 students aged 13 to 18) showed increased risks of asthma (63.4%), hay fever (62.1%) and allergic rhinitis (35%).3

How it harms infants

Recent studies suggest that swimming in chlorinated pools during infancy (up to two years of age) may increase the risks of lower respiratory tract infections. Infant swimmers who developed bronchiolitis also showed higher risks of asthma and respiratory allergies later in childhood.4

The connection to cancer

Swimming in chlorinated water may increase risk of melanoma, and is associated with bladder cancer, breast cancer and bowel difficulties from absorption through the skin.5

Damage to organs from related chemicals

Cyanuric acid (used in chlorinated swimming pools) has been connected to bladder disorders, renal (kidney) failure, lesions and urinary tract infections, among other health impacts.6
